Personalized Care For All Your Therapeutic Needs

If you feel you or your child are struggling with challenging issues such as anxiety, stress, school, relationships, managing emotions, behavior and/or learning, there’s hope.

Whatever your needs may be, I am here to offer support. Therapy is a process of growth and self-discovery. In our sessions, I promote behavioral transformation by encouraging a positive outlook and the adoption of healthy thinking, new attitudes, behaviors and reactions. I have the tools and professional experience to help you get back on track. While I have trained and worked with people of many ages, cultures, identities, and various backgrounds, I have a special competency working with children, teens, and parents

Since 2002, I have provided a number of specialized therapeutic services to children, adolescents, and families. I believe taking care of your mental health matters, because you matter. I utilize cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and other evidence-based treatments with clients with a wide range of emotional, behavioral, and adjustment problems such as, behavioral management, Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, executive functioning skills, anxiety disorders, depression, grief, interpersonal relationship difficulties, social skills, adjustment to long-term or situational life stressors, home and school behavioral concerns, strengthening parent-child relationships, and self exploration/personal growth.

All About Me

I’m Aimee Lyons Psy.D., a licensed Clinical Psychologist based in Bellevue, Washington. I truly care about my patients’ well-being and guarantee top of the line counseling, consulting, and psychological services catered to your needs.

I enjoy introducing individuals to the therapeutic process and believe that the therapeutic relationship is core to receive a high level of care. I am eager to apply my experience and compassion to help you address issues and improve effectiveness, quality of life, functioning within the family, and attain a sense of fulfillment. I truly believe that psychotherapy can help children, teens and families most effectively use their resources to improve behavioral functioning and decision-making, solve problems, and improve overall understanding and family relationships. Therapy or counseling can also provide parents with the skills and tools they need to be better parents, including effective discipline techniques, communication skills, and strategies for building strong relationships with their children.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Psychologists play a crucial role in providing assessment, diagnosis, and intervention services to help children thrive and reach their full potential.

Therapy provides an opportunity for support and growth. While many individuals face challenges, therapy creates a safe space to for children and teens to work out their problems, learn effective communication strategies, improve self-esteem and gain confidence. I believe that therapy is beneficial when problems don’t seem to get better on their own. Therapy can help children, teens and sometimes entire families learn to work together, create boundaries, reduce negative behavior and improve overall dynamics.

I consider myself to be a pretty hands-on clinician. Kids learn from effective modeling and doing. For my younger clients, that means incorporating play, art, and talking into our sessions. Older clients may work through ideas and activities that foster learning by sharing thoughts, talking through feelings and experiences as well as collaborating to solve problems.

Children growing into teens and teens growing into adults commonly experience uncertainty and challenges. They can struggle to fit in, feel comfortable knowing and being themselves, face transitional or relationship issues, and rejection. Therapy can help create healthy coping skills to support the navigation of these challenges. Working with a psychologist allows children and teens to address their problems by providing guidance, support, education, and reliable resources

  • Kids learn by doing. As the saying goes, play is the language of childhood. Children are still in the process of developing their cognitive and emotional abilities. Therapy with children can look different than with adults. Rarely do kids sit on the couch and openly discuss the goals they would like to achieve by instantly taking responsibility and action. They require a rapport build at their level where they feel safe to discuss their experiences, mistakes and feelings. A space where it safe to share without judgement. Sometimes playing a game or doing an activity makes talking easier. It can decrease our defensiveness by sharing a positive experience focused on fun. A psychologist will help children learn to believe in themselves by identifying their strengths, accepting responsibility, taking accountability, and normalizing the pain that comes with growth and change. Every session can look differently depending upon a child’s development and functioning when they enter the room. The relationship and the trust built is what enables a therapist and client to address feelings, talk about difficult things and effectively work towards change. It's a process over time to grow. In the end, therapy helps by building and creating healthy behaviors habits and helpful thinking patterns.

"Change has a considerable psychological impact on the human mind. To the fearful it is threatening because it means that things may get worse. To the hopeful it is encouraging because things may get better. To the confident it is inspiring because the challenge exists to make things better."
